Ben Spilman
Men's Soccer
9/12/2011

The sophomore communication major has backstopped the Bengals to a 3-0-1 start.  In three games this past week, Spilman helped the Bengals post three-consecutive shutouts.  He played half of a 6-0 win over D'Youville on Wednesday, then made six saves in a 0-0 draw against Houghton, and had another six-save performance in a 1-0 win over SUNYIT on the weekend.  Spilman was named to the Fredonia Classic All-Tournament Team and has not allowed a goal in 280 minutes and 28 seconds.

Michael Rankin-Byrne ('10)

Mike was named USC Upstate's Athlete of the Week http://upstatespartans.com/aotw/2009-10/test2 was also nominated for Player of the Week honours from the Atlantic Sun Conference http://www.atlanticsun.org/msoccer/news/120/4767/ .

Men's soccer player Michael Rankin-Byrne notched the game-tying goal at Stetson and almost notched the game-winner and has earned Sprint Spartan of the Week honors.  Rankin-Byrne, a freshman from Kingston, Ontario, had a strong game at Stetson last weekend. With Upstate trailing 1-0, he scored in the 89th minute to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, he narrowly missed the game-winning goal when Stetson's keeper made a leaping save.

Jonathan Kowalski ('08)

Junior Jonathan Kowalski (Glens Falls) scored the game’s lone goal at the 56:02 mark after sophomore Jeff Christian (Middletown) beat the defender along the baseline and sent a pass through the box to set up Kowalski for his fourth goal of the season and eventual game-winner.

Jon Kowalski (2008 GF graduate), an Oneonta State junior, was recently invited to tour Brazil later this month with the Men's USA D-3 Soccer Team. (Spring 2011)
