Glens Falls opened the 2007 season with a convincing win over
Lake George in the first game of the Adirondack Shootout. Glens Falls was
held scoreless during the first half, despite controlling the majority of
possession and out shooting the Warriors 12-2. Following the half, the
Indians came out strong on a pair of goals from Jon Kowalski. The first goal
was unassisted, as Kowalski worked his way through the Lake George back
line. The second goal came at the end of a string of passes that moved
through Zach Weidner to Beau Knapp and finally on to Kowalski’s attacking
run at the top of the box. Kowalski managed to get around two defenders and
finally tip the ball past the grasp of Warriors keeper Cameron Jones. The
Warriors held tough the remainder of the game. The Glens Falls defense,
anchored by Sean Driscoll, Alex Garrett, Ryan Brown, and Peter Sliva, had a
strong game in limiting the Warriors attack. |

Glens Falls opened its 2007 Foothills season with a big win against an
aggressive Gloversville side. The Indians came into the game playing their
third game in three days following a busy weekend in Oneonta where they
participated in the High School Hall of Fame Cup. Despite the demanding
schedule, the Indians showed up to play and did so through a full team
effort. Both teams had difficulty maintaining possession in the wet
conditions and the game seemed to be a midfield struggle for the first
fifteen minutes. Zack Sopczyk opened the scoring when he headed a high cross
from the right wing by Zach Weidner. The ball hit the grass and trickled
into the goal as the Gloversville defense hustled to save the goal. Glens
Falls’ second goal came at the end of a string of one-touch passes that
split the Gloversville midfield and ended with another cross, this time from
Jamie Bruening, that was headed in at the far post by Beau Knapp. Glens
Falls rounded out the second half with the third goal of the contest when
Matt Distler charged down the right flank, drove a hard pass that was
deflected by a Gloversville player in the box, and was blasted past the
Gloversville keeper, Dan Krajcir by Ryan Conklin. |

The Glens Falls Indians met a fiery Hudson Falls squad in Foothills Council
action. Glens Falls got the first goal of the game from James Brown (assist
by Beau Knapp) who rifled a shot from 25 yards out to beat the Tigers keeper
Mike Legault. Glens Falls played flat for the rest of the game as Hudson
Falls slowly built momentum. Hudson Falls got the equalizer when Steven
Barrett headed in a nice cross from Craig Raggi. The score at halftime was
all tied up at 1-1. Following the break, Glens Falls came out hard and
opened up the game on goals from James Brown (unassisted), Ryan Conklin
(assist to Sean Driscoll), Jon Kowalski (unassisted), and Zack Sopczyk
(assist to James Brown). The Tigers had strong games from Troy Belden and
Nick Miller at midfield. |

Glens Falls and Johnstown
played to a grueling double overtime 0-0 tie in Foothills Council action
this afternoon. Both teams generated plenty of opportunities but neither
team could convert in this fast-paced and competitive game. Both keepers,
Jordan Curtis for Johnstown and Leo Boucher for Glens Falls, played primary
roles in coming up with big saves to keep the sheets clean. Johnstown had
standout performances by Travis Bevington and Brian Kested. Glens Falls’
Zach Weidner and Jacob McCoola did a great job converting to the defensive
line to fill in for injuries and illness. |

The first half was a 1-1 stalemate at the half as each team played an
aggressive first half. B-P was first on the boards when Dan Schulz muscled
through the Glena Falls backline and beat the keeper with a quick toe-poke.
Glens Fall rallied toward the end of the half and got on the board when
Jamie Bruening sent a beautiful cross into the box that was popped into the
net by Jon Kowalski. The Indians came out of the intermission on fire
recording four goals in the first twenty-five minutes of the half. Goal
scorers included: Zach Weidner (assist Kowalski), James Brown on a corner
kick from Jake Semmel, Beau Knapp (from Kowalski) and Keenan Round (also
from Kowalski). |

South High opened the scoring at the five minute mark of the first half and
didn’t waste any time looking back as they defeated local rivals Glens Falls
3-0 in their first meeting in Foothills Council action. Tyler Greene opened
the scoring with a 25-yard rocket that was too much for keeper Leo Boucher
to handle. Boucher was in position and got his hands on the ball, but the
force of the shot deflected off his hands and into the net. Tyler Greene was
also instrumental in the Bulldogs second goal, setting up Jonathan Bouchard
who pounced on a ball that was misplayed by the Indians back line. South
High rounded out the scoring with a counterattack that ran the full length
of the field by taking advantage of the Indians defensive struggle to keep
pace. The second half more an evenly played half. The Indians made some
halftime adjustments and were able to increase their opportunities, but all
attempts failed on net. South High moves to 5-0-0 in league play while the
Indians had their first league loss. Glens falls faces defending league
champs Scotia-Glenville on Thursday while the Bulldogs face Hudson Falls. |

The Queensbury Spartans opened up a 3-0 lead midway through the second half
and held a charging Glens Falls side to just one goal in a local rivalry for
third place in the Foothills Council. Mark Custer opened the scoring for the
Spartans with the only goal of the first half when he netted a shot off a
corner kick by Tim Hughes. Glens Falls’ failure to clear yet another corner,
and the keeper’s failure to get a hold the ball, set up an easy opportunity
for the visitors. In the second half, Queensbury jumped on the boards with
two close goals to extend the lead by three. Tanner Kietzman and Mark Custer
each scored for the Spartans. Glens Falls had a late spurt during the final
fifteen minutes and finally notched a goal when Zack Weidner carried the
ball down the flank and crossed the ball to an on-rushing Jon Kowalski. The
Indians had another chance to score with 12:00 minutes left in the game when
Kowalski was taken out in the penalty box and was awarded a PK. Kowalski’s
kick was sent high over the crossbar and the Indians failed to present any
further chances on net for the remainder of the contest. |

Glens Falls bounced back
from two recent tough league losses to beat Gloversville 2-0 at Morse
Athletic Complex. The Indians got on the boards at the early with the first
of Zack Sopczyk’s two goals. Beau Knapp fed Sopczyk at the far post and
Sopczyk chipped it past the Dragon’s keeper, Dan Krajcir, for the score. In
the second half, Sopczyk had the only other goal of the contest. Jon
Kowalski played a beautiful through ball to Sopczyk who blasted a shot on
the keeper. The keeper was able to get a hand on the ball, but the momentum
was too much to handle and the ball bounced into the net. With the win,
Glens Falls improves to 4-2-1 in the league and 6-4-1 overall. The Dragons,
drop to 1-5-1 in league play and 4-5-1 overall. |

scored two more in the second half when Zack Sopczyk scored both goals in
the span of 5 minutes. Both teams played hard, but GF had too much fire
power. Jon Miller had 17 saves for Hudson Falls. Spilman had 6 for the
Indians. Kowalski, Sopczyk, and Jake McCoola had good games for Glens Falls.
Mike Legault, Steve Waite, and Justin Marcellus played well for Hudson

Scotia- Glenville once again
showed why they are the team to beat in the Foothills Council with a
commanding win against a shaky Glens Falls side. The Tartans scored two in
the first half by capitalizing on Glens Falls defensive errors. In each
case, a Glens Falls player failed to initially clear the ball in the
attacking third and each time they paid dearly. Joe Hlat scooped up the
first miscue and gently passed the ball into the net to beat the Indians
keeper. On the second goal, the Indians midfield failed to move the ball to
the flank and Dennis Carringi took advantage. In the second half, Glens
Falls came out and controlled much of the early pace of the game, but
couldn’t create any chances. It didn’t take long before the Tartans
strengthened their lead with goals from Andrew Benaquista and Joe Hlat. The
Scotia back line did a great job all afternoon by holding the Indians attack
to just two shots on goal. |

The shots were flying, but
neither team was able to convert for 90+ minutes due to some outstanding
play by both keepers, Curtis for Johnstown and sophomore call-up Ben Spilman
for Glens Falls. Sometimes it takes putting the ball in the goals four times
before you get it right. Glens Falls found out the hard way that you have to
do everything right in order to have the goals count. Throughout the game,
the Indians managed to have three goals called back- two due to offside
calls and one, in overtime, for a handball. To top it off, Glens Falls was
awarded a penalty kick in the second half that was saved by Johnstown keeper
Jordan Curtis. All together, both teams provided a fast-paced and
entertaining, albeit frustrating, contest. Finally, in the second overtime,
Glens Falls strung together several passes on the counter attack up the
middle of the field. Jon Kowalski provided another highlight reel
performance in receiving the ball at central midfield and threading a pass
to Zack Sopczyk who netted the game winner. Both teams displayed terrific
defensive performances. Kevin Hunt and Greg Hansen had a great game in
limiting Kowalski, and Sopczyk. Peter Sliva, Matt Mason and Sean Driscoll
reigned in the Sir Bills consistent attack of Travis Bevington and John
Roth. |

Jon Kowalski got the Indians on the board with about 5 minutes left in the
first half, as he was able to beat three B-P defenders with an nice
individual effort and then beat Patriot keeper Jared LaPorte with his shot.
The score remained 1-0 until midway through the second half, when Beau Knapp
was able to put home a rebound from a direct kick sent in by Zack Weidner.
Weidner made it 3-0 just 3 minutes later on a counterattack started from a
B-P corner kick. For the game, the Indians outshot the Patriots 15-11 but
Broadalbin held the edge in corners 4-1. Putting in strong performances for
Glens Falls were Jake McCoola, Peter Sliva, and Ben Spilman. Broadalbin
received good efforts from Anad Shah, Dan Schulz, and Josh Spencer. |

responded 3 minutes later with a goal by James Catillaz. The game winner
came late in the 1st half with only 1:03 remaining when Kevin Hicks beat the

Put another one in the record books for Scotia-Glenville. With their 4-0 win
today, they became the Foothills Council champion. Scotia has had some
outstanding league championship teams over the past 15 years, and the 2007
edition is certainly one of them. It was a well played game by both teams.
In the 32nd minute of play, Scotia was able to score with a cross from Joe
Hlat to Kyle Capel on the ground to make it 1-0. Soon after, Andrew
Benaquista found the goal to make it 2-0 going into the half. Once again
excellent goal keeping by Glens Falls Sophmore goalie, Ben Spilman, made it
very difficult for Scotia to score. Nick Alescio broke thru midway into the
second stanza with another assist by Hlat. A final goal was made by Jack
Lewis. Credit has to be given to Glens Falls center midfielder Jon Kowalski
for being a great playmaker and always dangerous. Goal keeper for Scotia was
Pete Guzwich with 7 saves. Scotia had 17 shots to Glens Falls 9. |

It was a beautiful night to
play indoors as Queensbury hosted Glens Falls in boy’s soccer action at the
Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury. Glens Falls came out with the
advantage on the last game of their Foothills season, finishing the league
schedule on a high note in defeating their cross-town rivals. The pace of
the game was fast and the atmosphere was exciting as the two teams battled
for league points. Glens Falls controlled much of the pace of the game in
the first half, registering twelve shots to Queensbury’s five. But on this
night, the keepers (senior Ryan Fitzgerald for Queensbury and sophomore Ben
Spilman for Glens Falls) were keeping each team’s attackers honest as both
gave stellar performances in net. In the second half, Queensbury held the
early advantage in possession and attack, but Glens Falls soon ramped up the
momentum in play. The hard work paid off when Zack Weidner sent an
in-swinging corner kick to the near post that bounced off Matt Distler’s
back and into the net. The goal was enough to hold up for the remainder of
regulation as the Indians defense continued to play big under pressure. With
the win Glens Falls finishes the season in third place in the Foothills
Council. Queensbury travels to Broadalbin-Perth on Monday to wrap up league
play. |

Burnt Hills' Shawn Fitzpatrick hit the nets twice in the first 14 minutes of
play and BHBL went on to roll to the big win. Fitzpatrick later added an
assist as well. Other scores came from Steve Childs, John DellaPia, Dan
DiSorbo, and Andrew Levy. Ethan Chase added two assists and Pat Nally one.
Josh Klapper only had to make three saves in the Burnt Hills net. Glens
Falls got it’s only goal off a 20 yard dipping shot from sophomore call-up
Josh Wadleigh who was playing in his first varsity game. Sophomore keeper
Ben Spilman had another outstanding game in the nets. Freshman Peter Sliva
made some early adjustments to quiet much of the opposing attack by BH-BL’s
leading scorer. Varsity standouts Zach Weidner and Jon Kowalski did a great
job of controlling play in the midfield. Meanwhile, senior Ryan Conklin was
the team workhorse for the day; playing just about everywhere and anywhere
on the field he was needed. |
