Lake George |

Glens Falls opened the 2008 season with a win over Lake George in the first
game of the Adirondack Shootout Soccer Tournament held at Glens Falls’ Morse
Athletic Complex. Both teams were held scoreless during the first half, with
fairly even play from both teams. Following the half, the Indians came out
strong when Zack Weidner
received a Joe Celeste feed through midfield and
netted for the Indians. The second goal came at the end of a string of
missed shots and errant passes that moved through several players and
finally ricocheted off the foot of Keenan Round in front of the net for the
goal. Glens Falls had strong games from several players including Jamie Bruening and
Peter Sliva. Cameron Jones, who did a great job keeping the
game close, anchored Lake George. |

Glens Falls and Fort Ann
took it to overtime in the second game of the Adirondack Shootout at Glens
Falls’ Morse Athletic Complex. Each team had netted in the first half. Glens
Falls controlled much of the pace of the game and they opened the scoring at
25:00 of the first half when Keenan Round was able to tap in a well
placed cross by Josh Wadleigh. However, with less than a minute left
in the half, Fort Ann was awarded a penalty kick when a Glens Falls player
handled the ball in the box. The Cardinals’ Joe Shevy stepped up to
the penalty spot and just beat the outstretched Glens Falls keeper to tie up
the game. A persistent Fort Ann defense held Glens Falls to a scoreless
second half to send the game into overtime. At the nine-minute mark of the
first overtime, Josh Wadleigh once again found Keenan Round in
front of the net. This time Round headed the cross in to put the game away.
Glens Falls had a complete team effort from every player who played- piling
up 30 shots over the course of the game and controlling much of the pace of
the game. Fort Ann keeper Dexter Durkee played a fantastic game in net for
the Cardinals. |

Glens Falls started off day
the High School Hall of Fame Cup tournament with a loss to Elmira Free
Academy of Section IV. EFA was the first team to strike when Matt Praino
took advantage of sloppy marking off a throw-in. Praino’s forward run past a
sleeping Glens Falls defense was easily slipped by the Glens Falls keeper
for the opener. Glens Falls fought back quickly to tie up the game with a
left wing blast by midfielder Josh Wadleigh who received a pass from
Matt Mason and buried it in the net. The first half ended with the
score tied at one goal apiece. A drenching rain marked the second half and
EFA took advantage of the sloppy conditions and sloppy play by the Indians.
Frankie Manino scored the second half hat trick to put the game away early
for the winners. Two of the goals were unassisted and Praino assisted the
other. |

Chittenango |
1 |
Glens Falls finished off day two of the High School Hall of Fame tournament
with a win over feisty Chittenango of Section III. Chittenango was the first
team to strike when Phil Anson converted on a sloppy clearance by the
Indians back line. A few minutes later, Anson had to leave the game with a
broken nose after a collision in the goalmouth with the Glens Falls keeper
Ben Spilman. The second half was dominated by Glens Falls and they
were able to post two big goals by senior captain Zack Weidner. The
first goal came off a brilliant forward run by Jamie Bruening through
midfield to find Weidner at the top of the box. The second came from a cross
from Josh Wadleigh that was initially touched by Keenan Round
and eventually placed in the goal by an outstretched Weidner. |

Broadalbin-Perth relied on a gritty second half performance to defeat the
host Glens Falls Indians in a hard fought Foothills Council opening day win.
Glens Falls was the first team to strike midway through the first half.
Keenan Round mishandled Jamie Bruening’s cross in the box and
Zack Weidner took advantage to tap it in for the opening goal. At the
half the Indians held the upper hand with the one goal lead. Both teams came
out hard in the second half. But it was the Patriot’s aggressive attack and
quickness that bested the Indians defense. A weak goal kick and poor
defensive positioning allowed Steve Sullivan to receive a clear pass from
Caleb Gruet that he finished into the upper left corner of the goal. With
just minutes left in the game, Colby Russell’s throw-in was centered by
Sullivan to an on-rushing Gruet, taking the Indians defense by surprise, and
scoring the winning goal. Broadalbin-Perth keeper Jared LaPorte played a
fantastic game in goal for the Patriots; keeping the game close despite
Glens Falls leading the game in shots. The Patriots also had good games from
Jared Retersdorf and the defensive unit led by Dan Lewis and anchored by
Anand Shah. |

Johnstown |
2 |
The officials
said it best at the end of the game, “That was the story of two halves”.
With a hard rain falling for the entire game, Glens Falls came out hard in
the first half to notch the first goal just minutes into the contest. The
Indians Keenan Round placed a great pass on the foot of strike
partner Josh Wadleigh and Wadleigh buried it home to give the Indians
the early lead. Glens Falls continued to dominate throughout the first half,
but a determined Johnstown squad kept the score at 1-0 to enter the half.
Following the halftime break, Johnstown came out looking to equalize and did
so with a scrappy struggle in front of the net. Glens Falls keeper Ben
Spilman initially mishandled the ball in the crease as several players
tried to clear it, but it was Johnstown’s Nick Cannizzo who finally poked it
into the net. The Sir Bills looked to have the momentum following the goal,
until midway through the second half when Patrick Smotzer sent a
lofting early cross into the box from the right flank that connected with
Keenan Round. Round played the ball just right and skip-headed the ball
just over the reach of the Johnstown keeper Nick Rovazzini. The game seemed
put away, until Johnstown received a corner kick with five minutes left in
regulation. Mario Balzano’s cross came directly in front of the Indians
keeper who hesitated on the grab and was beaten to the ball by Tommy Horning
who pasted it into the net for a deserving tying goal. Following a scoreless
and exciting first overtime period, the Indians came out strong and
determined in the second. The eventual game winner was scored by Sam
Caruso who gathered up a loose ball 25 yards from the goal and blasted
it just under the cross bar to end the contest.

Scotia and Glens Falls played a hard fought stalemate for much of the first
half, with each team having opportunities on net and forcing the keepers to
earn their saves. However, with five minutes remaining in the first half,
Scotia's Nate Crow carried the ball from the right flank past several Glens
Falls defenders and blasted a shot past the Indians keeper. This would prove
to be the game winner as neither team was able to convert in the second
half. Scotia had a strong game from Elliot Gordon who pestered the Glens
Falls backs all afternoon and Scotia's defensive line didn't allow a single
shot on goal during the second half. On the other end, Glens Falls keeper
Ben Spilman made several huge saves to keep the Indians in the game for
the full eighty minutes. |

The Gloversville Dragons
continued their winning ways with a dominating win over Glens Falls in
Foothills action. The Dragons got on the boards early with a goal by Jarred
Antonucci just two minutes into the game. Mike Capano’s throw-in from deep
in the Glens Falls zone went untouched by the Indians defense and Antonucci
had little trouble beating the Indians keeper. Antonucci scored his second
goal of the afternoon when he picked up an errant forward pass that darted
through the Glens Falls a beat the keeper with a breakaway goal. Following
the half the Indians made some adjustments that initially resulted in some
more competitive play at midfield. However, midway through the second half,
the Dragons speedy attack and team play took advantage of several Glens
Falls defensive and midfield mistakes to score three additional goals by
Brandon Cooper, Marco Delilli, and Josh Krajcir (assisted by Maurice
Carpenter). Despite the lopsided score, Glens Falls keeper, Ben Spilman,
had another outstanding game for the Indians. |

The Queensbury Spartans
improved their league record to 4-1-0 with a cross-town rivalry defeat of
Glens Falls. Andrew Sconzo opened the scoring for the Spartans in the 32nd
minute of play when Tanner Kietzman sent a long pass to the opposite corner
and Sconzo beat his defender then finished past the keeper on the near post.
Queensbury put the game away with just two minutes left in the game. Mike
Majewski sent a ball across the goalmouth and past the Glens falls keeper to
a streaking Chris Coughlan on the far post. The Glens Falls defense and
keeper failed to adjust and Coughlan had little trouble hitting the back of
the net. The Queensbury defense of Brandon Neddo, Ryan Cassidy, Chris
Coughlan, and Caleb Johnson played an excellent game and didn’t allow the
Indians to get a single shot in the second half. |

South High and Glens Falls each had a classic battle today at South High
with much of the game played between the eighteen yard lines and both teams
creating opportunities to score. Glens Falls best chance came early in the
first half, when Josh Wadleigh rifled a point blank shot off the post
that was eventually cleared by the South High defense. The second half
continued to be a high paced stalemate with the eventual game winner coming
with 12:43 left in the match. Erik Curley took the ball to the goal line to
beating the Indians defender and drawing out the GF keeper Ben Spilman.
Spilman got in the balls path and it was deflected out in front of the goal
where James Catillaz placed his shot between the two center backs and hit
the back of the net. Shots on goal were virtually equal with SGF having 16
and GF having 15. |

Hudson Falls |

Glens Falls and Hudson Falls competed in local action on a rainy and wet
surface with Glens Falls coming out on top with a 5-0 win. Glens Falls
controlled much of the pace of the game throughout and received a great all
around team effort in the win. The Indians were awarded a penalty kick, just
eight minutes into the game, when Jamie Bruening was shoved down in
the box by a Tigers’ defender. Bruening converted on the PK.
Bruening went on to score the second goal just six minutes later when
his corner kick try was mishandled by the Hudson Falls keeper and fell into
the net. Josh Wadleigh rounded out the first half goals when he
converted a left footed shot at the end of a field long counter attack. The
Tigers best chances came early in the second half as they applied pressure
to the Indians defense but were unable to convert. Glens Falls got back on
the boards on a 25-yard shot from Sam Caruso that blazed by the
Tigers keeper. Wadleigh scored his second of the afternoon as he
finished on a far post cross by Jamie Bruening. The Tigers had strong
games from Nick Miller and Tyler Mullen and Ben Neadle. |

Broadalbin-Perth |

Glens Falls |

Broadalbin-Perth used a
strong offensive and defensive effort today to defeat Glens Falls 2-0. The
Patriots were able to control the pace of the game off the opening whistle
and used good ball possession to create their first goal. Jared Retersdorf
served the ball to the top of the Indian’s box and Allesandro Macchiarelli
was able to get a touch on it and strike it into the far upper corner of the
net for a 1-0 advantage. In the second half, Glens Falls increased their
pressure on the Patriots back line but was unable to create a strong scoring
threat. B-P put the game away with 5 minutes remaining as Nate Dick and
Macchiarelli passed their way down the left side of the field and served the
ball into the box to Scott Harder. Harder one-timed it past Indian’s goalie
Ben Spilman to make it 2-0. For the game, the Patriots outshot the Indians
15-5 and had the advantage in corners 4-0. B-P keeper Jared LaPorte earned
his 6th shutout of the season. |

Glens Falls scored a goal in each half of play to take the second meeting of
these two Foothills programs. Glens Falls netted the first goal of the match
on a ten yard blast by Keenan Round that was initially touched by the
keeper but he was unable to handle it. Matt Distler assisted from the
flank. The second goal came with just two minutes remaining in the game.
Josh Wadleigh split two defenders at midfield and converted on the
breakaway. |

Scotia-Glenville |
1 |
Glens Falls and Scotia played another high intensity and hard fought battle
in Foothills competition. The first half saw a commanding Glens Falls
midfield attack during which Glens Falls led Scotia in shots 8-2. An
exciting half of play ended with a penalty kick being awarded to the tartans
following a clumsy tackle in the box. Scotia’s Andrew Sickles stepped up to
take the shot but the Indians keeper Ben Spilman stopped his attempt
with a minute remaining in the half. Both teams entered the second half
intent on getting the go ahead goal. Midway through the half, Glens Falls
ended up conceding the only goal of the match on a strong finish by Nate
Crow who tapped in a short pass from Nick Alescio at the penalty spot. On
the game, Glens Falls finished with the shots advantage 14-7. Scotia led in
corner kicks 6-0. |

Gloversville |
2 |
In yet another Foothills
challenge, the Glens Falls Indians out shot the visiting Gloversville
Dragons only to lose 2-0. The first half of play was a virtual deadlock with
both teams creating opportunities and having chances on net. However, it was
a poorly cleared Indians ball in the box that ricocheted off a Gloversville
player and fell at the feet of Eric Lucas near the penalty spot. Lucas’
finish beat the Indians keeper, Ben Spilman, on the far post to put
the Dragons ahead going into the half. The halftime stats had the teams tied
with eight shots apiece and five saves for each keeper. In the second half,
Glens Falls came out hard and created more opportunities, only to be denied
time and again by the Dragons keeper Dan Krajcir. The Indians put the game
away midway through the second half when the Dragons Eric Lucas intercepted
a poor flank pass. Lucas fed the ball to Marco Delilli who played a through
ball to Jarred Antonucci at the top of the box. Antonucci took a touch then
chipped it into the far post upper ninety. Glens Falls best opportunity to
get back into the game came when they were awarded an indirect free kick
just inside the box. Sam Caruso rolled the ball to Zack Weidner
whose shot was blasted off the post and Krajcir saved the rebound shot.
Both team’s defensive units had outstanding games. The Indians finished the
match with the advantage in shots 19-10. |

Glens Falls |

Queensbury recorded its third shutout of the week with a hard fought win
over Glens Falls. Brandon Neddo got the games only goal, (also his first
career goal) with 12:44 remaining in the first half, when he delivered a
ball from about 40 yds out on a restart. The ball was sent across to the far
post and it beat Glens Falls Keeper Ben Spilman who was screened on
the play. Spilman had already made several outstanding saves earlier
in the half to keep the score at 0-0. The Indians came out hard in the
second half and put heavy pressure on the Spartans, keeping the ball on the
Spartans side of the field for much of the second half. The Indians came
close several times, but could not find the back of the net. Neddo and
fellow center back Caleb Johnson had outstanding games for the Spartans and
Zach Weidner and Peter Sliva played outstanding for the
Indians. |

What started out as a stalemate between two local rivals turned into a
shootout in the second half of this Foothills Council match. Following a
scoreless first half that saw some spectacular goalkeeping, the floodgates
opened to create some very exciting soccer. Within an eight minute span, the
two teams went shot for shot to tally up a total of four goals. Glens Falls
got on the board first when Zack Weidner gathered up a ball outside
the left side of the box, dribbled through several South High defenders and
blasted a shot into the back of the net. Three minutes later, the Bulldogs’
James Catillaz performed a similar feat as he too showed the technical
ability to dribble through a crowd to tie up the match. Just a minute and a
half later, the Indian’s Josh Wadleigh got onto the end of a long
service from Alex Garrett that resulted in a foot race with the South
High back. Wadleigh’s shot beat the keeper on the right side to put
the Indian’s ahead with 15:55 remaining. But that wouldn’t be the end of it.
Just three after the Indian’s go-ahead goal the Bulldog’s Shane Lefleur sent
a cross to the top of the box. The Indian’s keeper, Ben Spilman, came
off his line to grab the ball but arrived too late. Once again James
Catillaz made the Indians pay for the mistake and slipped the ball past the
onrushing keeper for the equalizer with twelve minutes left in regulation.
The game winner came just one minute into the first overtime when Josh
Wadleigh sent a cross from the left flank to the far side of the box.
Keenan Round settled the pass and tapped it into the net to beat the
Bulldogs outstanding freshman keeper Chase Brooks. The Bulldogs had a very
strong game from Jack Bouchard and Mark Leeson. Glens Falls’ Joe Celeste
and Peter Sliva had standout games for the Indians. |

Glens Falls |
2 |
Glens Falls opened the scoring midway through the first half on a long ball
from Matt Mason to Matt Connell who received the ball at the
six-yard box and skip headed it into the net. Just beating the Tigers keeper
Ryan Darfler. A few minutes later, the Indians Sam Caruso received a square
pass from Zach Weidner in the middle of the field, took a touch
toward net and blasted a shot just under the cross bar from twenty five
yards out. Hudson Falls was able to get one back on a free kick that was
chipped over the defensive line by Dan Archambault. The shot took the
Indians players by surprise and several Tigers ran on to the ball. The ball
was battered about a few times, but eventually tapped into the net by Elijah
Kassie. The second half saw the Indians control much of the pace and
possession of the game with frequent shot at goal, but with no goals to show
for their efforts thanks to the outstanding play of Darfler between the
pipes. |

Glens Falls outplayed
CBA for the second straight year to win their first away contest of the
year. The Indians held the majority of possession and were constantly
threatening to score. CBA played with nine players in the box to keep the
game close but they couldn't keep Nate Spilman from scoring from long
distance in the first half. CBA would tie the game in the second on an ugly
defensive sequence only to give up a goal to Carl Sopczyk, who received a
great through pass from Won-Suh Nordquist. Spilman would score from outside
the box again to finish the scoring and give the Indians a 3-0 record
leading into league play. |

at the half and added to their score early in the second. Aaron Kanofsky
would tally late only to have Queensbury answer with more goals. Mike
Kowalski had a strong game in Defense for the Indians adding an assist on
the goal. |

Glens Falls opened the 2007 season with a convincing win over
Lake George in the first game of the Adirondack Shootout. Glens Falls was
held scoreless during the first half, despite controlling the majority of
possession and out shooting the Warriors 12-2. Following the half, the
Indians came out strong on a pair of goals from Jon Kowalski. The first goal
was unassisted, as Kowalski worked his way through the Lake George back
line. The second goal came at the end of a string of passes that moved
through Zach Weidner to Beau Knapp and finally on to Kowalski’s attacking
run at the top of the box. Kowalski managed to get around two defenders and
finally tip the ball past the grasp of Warriors keeper Cameron Jones. The
Warriors held tough the remainder of the game. The Glens Falls defense,
anchored by Sean Driscoll, Alex Garrett, Ryan Brown, and Peter Sliva, had a
strong game in limiting the Warriors attack. |

over Fort Ann. Jon Kowalski opened the scoring in the first half off a pass
fro Beau Knapp. In the second half it was all Glens Falls as Zach Weidner
scored two, one off a pass from James Brown and the other on a through pass
from Jon Kowalski. Keenan Round finished off the drive on a finish from the
six yard box on a James Brown free kick from just outside of the box. |

Glens Falls opened its 2007 Foothills season with a big win against an
aggressive Gloversville side. The Indians came into the game playing their
third game in three days following a busy weekend in Oneonta where they
participated in the High School Hall of Fame Cup. Despite the demanding
schedule, the Indians showed up to play and did so through a full team
effort. Both teams had difficulty maintaining possession in the wet
conditions and the game seemed to be a midfield struggle for the first
fifteen minutes. Zack Sopczyk opened the scoring when he headed a high cross
from the right wing by Zach Weidner. The ball hit the grass and trickled
into the goal as the Gloversville defense hustled to save the goal. Glens
Falls’ second goal came at the end of a string of one-touch passes that
split the Gloversville midfield and ended with another cross, this time from
Jamie Bruening, that was headed in at the far post by Beau Knapp. Glens
Falls rounded out the second half with the third goal of the contest when
Matt Distler charged down the right flank, drove a hard pass that was
deflected by a Gloversville player in the box, and was blasted past the
Gloversville keeper, Dan Krajcir by Ryan Conklin. |

The Glens Falls Indians met a fiery Hudson Falls squad in Foothills Council
action. Glens Falls got the first goal of the game from James Brown (assist
by Beau Knapp) who rifled a shot from 25 yards out to beat the Tigers keeper
Mike Legault. Glens Falls played flat for the rest of the game as Hudson
Falls slowly built momentum. Hudson Falls got the equalizer when Steven
Barrett headed in a nice cross from Craig Raggi. The score at halftime was
all tied up at 1-1. Following the break, Glens Falls came out hard and
opened up the game on goals from James Brown (unassisted), Ryan Conklin
(assist to Sean Driscoll), Jon Kowalski (unassisted), and Zack Sopczyk
(assist to James Brown). The Tigers had strong games from Troy Belden and
Nick Miller at midfield. |

Glens Falls and Johnstown
played to a grueling double overtime 0-0 tie in Foothills Council action
this afternoon. Both teams generated plenty of opportunities but neither
team could convert in this fast-paced and competitive game. Both keepers,
Jordan Curtis for Johnstown and Leo Boucher for Glens Falls, played primary
roles in coming up with big saves to keep the sheets clean. Johnstown had
standout performances by Travis Bevington and Brian Kested. Glens Falls’
Zach Weidner and Jacob McCoola did a great job converting to the defensive
line to fill in for injuries and illness. |

The first half was a 1-1 stalemate at the half as each team played an
aggressive first half. B-P was first on the boards when Dan Schulz muscled
through the Glena Falls backline and beat the keeper with a quick toe-poke.
Glens Fall rallied toward the end of the half and got on the board when
Jamie Bruening sent a beautiful cross into the box that was popped into the
net by Jon Kowalski. The Indians came out of the intermission on fire
recording four goals in the first twenty-five minutes of the half. Goal
scorers included: Zach Weidner (assist Kowalski), James Brown on a corner
kick from Jake Semmel, Beau Knapp (from Kowalski) and Keenan Round (also
from Kowalski). |

South High opened the scoring at the five minute mark of the first half and
didn’t waste any time looking back as they defeated local rivals Glens Falls
3-0 in their first meeting in Foothills Council action. Tyler Greene opened
the scoring with a 25-yard rocket that was too much for keeper Leo Boucher
to handle. Boucher was in position and got his hands on the ball, but the
force of the shot deflected off his hands and into the net. Tyler Greene was
also instrumental in the Bulldogs second goal, setting up Jonathan Bouchard
who pounced on a ball that was misplayed by the Indians back line. South
High rounded out the scoring with a counterattack that ran the full length
of the field by taking advantage of the Indians defensive struggle to keep
pace. The second half more an evenly played half. The Indians made some
halftime adjustments and were able to increase their opportunities, but all
attempts failed on net. South High moves to 5-0-0 in league play while the
Indians had their first league loss. Glens falls faces defending league
champs Scotia-Glenville on Thursday while the Bulldogs face Hudson Falls. |

The Queensbury Spartans opened up a 3-0 lead midway through the second half
and held a charging Glens Falls side to just one goal in a local rivalry for
third place in the Foothills Council. Mark Custer opened the scoring for the
Spartans with the only goal of the first half when he netted a shot off a
corner kick by Tim Hughes. Glens Falls’ failure to clear yet another corner,
and the keeper’s failure to get a hold the ball, set up an easy opportunity
for the visitors. In the second half, Queensbury jumped on the boards with
two close goals to extend the lead by three. Tanner Kietzman and Mark Custer
each scored for the Spartans. Glens Falls had a late spurt during the final
fifteen minutes and finally notched a goal when Zack Weidner carried the
ball down the flank and crossed the ball to an on-rushing Jon Kowalski. The
Indians had another chance to score with 12:00 minutes left in the game when
Kowalski was taken out in the penalty box and was awarded a PK. Kowalski’s
kick was sent high over the crossbar and the Indians failed to present any
further chances on net for the remainder of the contest. |

Glens Falls bounced back
from two recent tough league losses to beat Gloversville 2-0 at Morse
Athletic Complex. The Indians got on the boards at the early with the first
of Zack Sopczyk’s two goals. Beau Knapp fed Sopczyk at the far post and
Sopczyk chipped it past the Dragon’s keeper, Dan Krajcir, for the score. In
the second half, Sopczyk had the only other goal of the contest. Jon
Kowalski played a beautiful through ball to Sopczyk who blasted a shot on
the keeper. The keeper was able to get a hand on the ball, but the momentum
was too much to handle and the ball bounced into the net. With the win,
Glens Falls improves to 4-2-1 in the league and 6-4-1 overall. The Dragons,
drop to 1-5-1 in league play and 4-5-1 overall. |

Legault played a ball over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Ben Spilman.
Glens Falls responded 10 minutes later off a rebound put in by Jake Semmel.
Glens Falls was up 2-1 at half on a goal by Jon Kowalski. The Indians then
scored two more in the second half when Zack Sopczyk scored both goals in
the span of 5 minutes. Both teams played hard, but GF had too much fire
power. Jon Miller had 17 saves for Hudson Falls. Spilman had 6 for the
Indians. Kowalski, Sopczyk, and Jake McCoola had good games for Glens Falls.
Mike Legault, Steve Waite, and Justin Marcellus played well for Hudson
Falls. |

Scotia- Glenville once again
showed why they are the team to beat in the Foothills Council with a
commanding win against a shaky Glens Falls side. The Tartans scored two in
the first half by capitalizing on Glens Falls defensive errors. In each
case, a Glens Falls player failed to initially clear the ball in the
attacking third and each time they paid dearly. Joe Hlat scooped up the
first miscue and gently passed the ball into the net to beat the Indians
keeper. On the second goal, the Indians midfield failed to move the ball to
the flank and Dennis Carringi took advantage. In the second half, Glens
Falls came out and controlled much of the early pace of the game, but
couldn’t create any chances. It didn’t take long before the Tartans
strengthened their lead with goals from Andrew Benaquista and Joe Hlat. The
Scotia back line did a great job all afternoon by holding the Indians attack
to just two shots on goal. |

The shots were flying, but
neither team was able to convert for 90+ minutes due to some outstanding
play by both keepers, Curtis for Johnstown and sophomore call-up Ben Spilman
for Glens Falls. Sometimes it takes putting the ball in the goals four times
before you get it right. Glens Falls found out the hard way that you have to
do everything right in order to have the goals count. Throughout the game,
the Indians managed to have three goals called back- two due to offside
calls and one, in overtime, for a handball. To top it off, Glens Falls was
awarded a penalty kick in the second half that was saved by Johnstown keeper
Jordan Curtis. All together, both teams provided a fast-paced and
entertaining, albeit frustrating, contest. Finally, in the second overtime,
Glens Falls strung together several passes on the counter attack up the
middle of the field. Jon Kowalski provided another highlight reel
performance in receiving the ball at central midfield and threading a pass
to Zack Sopczyk who netted the game winner. Both teams displayed terrific
defensive performances. Kevin Hunt and Greg Hansen had a great game in
limiting Kowalski, and Sopczyk. Peter Sliva, Matt Mason and Sean Driscoll
reigned in the Sir Bills consistent attack of Travis Bevington and John
Roth. |

Jon Kowalski got the Indians on the board with about 5 minutes left in the
first half, as he was able to beat three B-P defenders with an nice
individual effort and then beat Patriot keeper Jared LaPorte with his shot.
The score remained 1-0 until midway through the second half, when Beau Knapp
was able to put home a rebound from a direct kick sent in by Zack Weidner.
Weidner made it 3-0 just 3 minutes later on a counterattack started from a
B-P corner kick. For the game, the Indians outshot the Patriots 15-11 but
Broadalbin held the edge in corners 4-1. Putting in strong performances for
Glens Falls were Jake McCoola, Peter Sliva, and Ben Spilman. Broadalbin
received good efforts from Anad Shah, Dan Schulz, and Josh Spencer. |

South High and Glens Falls played a competitive back and forth match today
at South Glens Falls Senior High School. The Indians got out to an early
lead when Zach Weidner beat South High goalie Evan Smith. South High
responded 3 minutes later with a goal by James Catillaz. The game winner
came late in the 1st half with only 1:03 remaining when Kevin Hicks beat the

opportunities to score and neither putting the ball in the net. |

Put another one in the record books for Scotia-Glenville. With their 4-0 win
today, they became the Foothills Council champion. Scotia has had some
outstanding league championship teams over the past 15 years, and the 2007
edition is certainly one of them. It was a well played game by both teams.
In the 32nd minute of play, Scotia was able to score with a cross from Joe
Hlat to Kyle Capel on the ground to make it 1-0. Soon after, Andrew
Benaquista found the goal to make it 2-0 going into the half. Once again
excellent goal keeping by Glens Falls Sophmore goalie, Ben Spilman, made it
very difficult for Scotia to score. Nick Alescio broke thru midway into the
second stanza with another assist by Hlat. A final goal was made by Jack
Lewis. Credit has to be given to Glens Falls center midfielder Jon Kowalski
for being a great playmaker and always dangerous. Goal keeper for Scotia was
Pete Guzwich with 7 saves. Scotia had 17 shots to Glens Falls 9. |

It was a beautiful night to
play indoors as Queensbury hosted Glens Falls in boy’s soccer action at the
Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury. Glens Falls came out with the
advantage on the last game of their Foothills season, finishing the league
schedule on a high note in defeating their cross-town rivals. The pace of
the game was fast and the atmosphere was exciting as the two teams battled
for league points. Glens Falls controlled much of the pace of the game in
the first half, registering twelve shots to Queensbury’s five. But on this
night, the keepers (senior Ryan Fitzgerald for Queensbury and sophomore Ben
Spilman for Glens Falls) were keeping each team’s attackers honest as both
gave stellar performances in net. In the second half, Queensbury held the
early advantage in possession and attack, but Glens Falls soon ramped up the
momentum in play. The hard work paid off when Zack Weidner sent an
in-swinging corner kick to the near post that bounced off Matt Distler’s
back and into the net. The goal was enough to hold up for the remainder of
regulation as the Indians defense continued to play big under pressure. With
the win Glens Falls finishes the season in third place in the Foothills
Council. Queensbury travels to Broadalbin-Perth on Monday to wrap up league
play. |

Burnt Hills' Shawn Fitzpatrick hit the nets twice in the first 14 minutes of
play and BHBL went on to roll to the big win. Fitzpatrick later added an
assist as well. Other scores came from Steve Childs, John DellaPia, Dan
DiSorbo, and Andrew Levy. Ethan Chase added two assists and Pat Nally one.
Josh Klapper only had to make three saves in the Burnt Hills net. Glens
Falls got it’s only goal off a 20 yard dipping shot from sophomore call-up
Josh Wadleigh who was playing in his first varsity game. Sophomore keeper
Ben Spilman had another outstanding game in the nets. Freshman Peter Sliva
made some early adjustments to quiet much of the opposing attack by BH-BL’s
leading scorer. Varsity standouts Zach Weidner and Jon Kowalski did a great
job of controlling play in the midfield. Meanwhile, senior Ryan Conklin was
the team workhorse for the day; playing just about everywhere and anywhere
on the field he was needed. |

We
opened our season with a win in our opening tournament. After the initial
first game nerves things settled down and the Indians got going. Scott
Semmel started the scoring early with a shot off of the left post. Chris
Reynolds finished off a corner kick from Sam Caruso with his head to make
the score 2-0. Josh Wadleigh would add another before the half, and two more
in the second for a hat trick. Lake George scored a couple late but by then
the game had already been decided. Good start boys. |

Our second game of the season produced an offensive explosion from the team.
Led by 5 goals from Josh Wadleigh and a hat trick from Chris Reynolds the
result was never in doubt. Pat Smotzer and Ben Hoffman added goals for the
Indians. Josh Wadleigh also is credited with the win in goal due to having
to make the only save of the game for the Indians in the final few minutes.
Sam Caruso had an excellent game in midfield, notching 2 assists and acting
as the engine that makes the team go. |

A
non-league game against a league rival was just what we needed to see what
kind of a team we really are. The game was hard fought by both sides with
lots of attacking and a number of good chances by both sides. Glens Falls
opened the scoring first with another goal by lefty Josh Wadleigh. The
Bulldogs then attacked relentlessly to try and equalize before the half but
their best chance would pound off the left post before being cleared by the
Glens Falls defense. The second half saw more of the run of play in favor of
the Indians. Ben Hoffman latched onto a through ball that the keeper miss
handled and slotted it home under pressure of the defense to make the score
2-0. Sam Caruso was man of the match for his tireless work in the midfield
and some great passing. Ben Spilman made 12 saves in the game for the
Indians second straight shutout. |

Our first away game and first league contest of the season was played on a
very wet field that was covered in ankle deep grass. The game was sloppy
throughout but the Indians were able to come up with 3 goals in the first
half by Reynolds, Wadleigh, and Caruso, whose 40 yard laser left the keeper
without any chance to make a save. Ben Spilman put in another fantastic
performance in goal. His athletic saves in the first half of what what were
sure to be a couple of fantastic goals for the Dragons helped secure another
shutout for the team. |

Glens Falls extended their win streak to 5 games with a great win over Big
Ten team CBA, in another non-league match-up. The Indians applied lots of
pressure right from the opening whistle, controlling the pace of the game
and creating plenty of goal scoring chances. Sam Caruso scored the games
first goal in the first half after Josh Wadleigh played him the ball on top
of the box. Sam took the ball across the field only to rip a low shot back
against the grain and into the goal, leaving the keeper stranded on the
other side. Wadleigh would add two quick goals later in the half off of
assists from Won-Suh Nordquist and Scott Semmel. CBA scored their only goal
of the game shortly before the half to make
the score 3-1. After the half the Indians continued to dominate the run of
play with plenty of possession, smart attacking runs, and probing passes.
However, it was CBA with the first clear chance of the second half when a
CBA player was fouled in the penalty box, winning a penalty kick for his
team. Ben Spilman continued his brilliant play by easily turning away the
kick with a dive to his right. A few minutes later it was Glens Falls adding
to the score when Won-Suh Nordquist scrapped a loose ball at the goalmouth
and pushed it over the line. Nice win boys! The best we've played so far. |

Our second league match was a little ugly against a poor team. Scott Semmel
led Glens Falls with 3 goals while Evan Desantis, Sam Caruso, and Joe
Celeste added a goal each. A lot of mental errors meant we had to work a lot
harder to finish off this game. Passing must get better and decision making
must become quicker to compete with better teams. A win is a win though.

Glens Falls won their third league match of the season, and seventh in a
row, on goals by Josh Wadleigh and Chris Reynolds. The game was physical and
quite sloppy and never really settled into attractive soccer. The huge field
meant a lot more space to cover and Johstown's offside trap worked well
against the over eager Indians. Ben Spilman had little to do in the goal
all game while making a handful of easy saves. |

A great game by both teams. Some wonderful passing and
some strong defending led to a close match that saw the Indians win their
eighth straight. BP scored first when the GF defense failed to clear a slow
rolling ball off the line. GF would answer later in the first half when
Chris Reynolds took a ball to the endline and crossed to a streaking Evan
Desantis who blasted the ball hard enough to break the net away from the
crossbar. The half would end 1-1. The second half stayed tied until Josh
Wadleigh cut through the defense and scored the winner with two minutes
left. Ben Davis played a strong game in the back for the Indians, denying
the BP forwards any access to the box from the left side of the field.
Another strong game for Sam Caruso and Pat Smotzer in the midfield as well.

This was a well played game that saw a lot of chances by both teams. GF held

played an excellent game in goal for the Indians stopping everything that

With the score tied at 0-0 at the end of regulation the teams faced off in
overtime with GF coming out hard. The Indians would score the winner 8
minutes into the first OT when Josh Wadleigh dribbled through the Bulldog
defense on the left side and blasted a shot under the keeper to the far

Glens Falls won again on some outstanding finishing from Josh Wadleigh.
Early in the first half Josh received a 40 yard pass from Sam Caruso behind
the defense, then had to take a touch around the keeper before slotting the
ball calmly into the goal to make the score 1-0. A few minutes later Josh
again got behind the defense to collect a pass from Chris Reynolds. Josh out
ran the defense and again put the ball calmly into the net past the keeper
to give the Indians a 2 goal lead. Shortly before the half Queensbury would
strike back when a forward one timed a ball that looped over the head of Ben
Spilman and into the goal. Halftime score 2-1. Barely two minutes into the
second half and Wadleigh was at it again when his cross into the box went
over the goalies head and settled into the far side of the goal completing
his hat trick and assuring the win for the Indians. |

effort that was to hot for the keeper to handle cleanly. Great game from
everyone on the field. Glens Falls pushed the pace the entire game and
limited the Sir Bills to only a handful of shots on goal. Chris Reynolds
earned the shutout in the goal making several nice saves. |

Glens Falls opened up the
High School Hall of Fame Cup Tournament against a very tough Vestal side.
Vestal opened up the scoring just 2:25 into the first half with a short free
kick from just outside the penalty box. Twelve minutes later, Vestal was
awarded a penalty kick when a loose ball in front of the Glens Falls goal
struck an Indian’s defender in the hand. Vestal’s Matt Kristek converted the
PK. At the 28 minute mark Glens Falls’ Jon Kowalski finished a
deflected ball on a corner kick to put the Indians on the board. During the
second half, Vestal’s Nate Sanzo managed to get by three GF defenders and
poked the ball past Glens Falls keeper Tyler Turner to send the Bears
to a 3-1 lead. Sanzo converted again just ten minutes later on a free kick.

Broadalbin-Perth captured the opening game of the Foothills Council season
with a 1-0 win over Glens Falls. B-P and Glens Falls battled throughout most
of the first half scoreless, until a streaking James Fagan got a touch on a
loose ball at the top of the box that leapt over the Glens Falls keeper and
trickled into the corner of the net. Shots on goal were relatively even in
the first half with B-P at 4 and Glens Falls with 3. Glens Falls came out
hard in the second half of play and controlled much of the possession
throughout the remainder of the game, but were unable to convert- out
shooting the Patriots 9-3. Despite the pressure, the B-P back line and
keeper Aaron Eschler were able to hold off the attack until the final
whistle. |

It took nearly the entire game to determine a winner in this game that was
hard fought throughout by both teams. An unassisted strike by Glens Falls’
Murphy Potter, with just 1:00 left in regulation time, ended up being
the difference as Glens Falls defeated Scotia-Glenville for the first time
in Foothills Council boys soccer seasonal play. Possession time was
relatively even, while Scotia-Glenville held the advantage in shots on goal
10-3, but Glens Falls’ keeper Tyler Turner came up big on several
occasions to keep the Indians on par. Scotia-Glenville’s Andrew Benaquista
Steve Rosemarino and Craig Holub all created opportunities for the Tartans.
Glens Falls’ back line of PJ Londrigan, Tommy Burgess, Shane Reynolds,
and Nick Weidner were the difference for the Indians. |

Glens Falls opened the scoring 13:00 into the first half on a goal by

defense throughout much of the first half until a second Glens Falls goal
was scored by Jon Kowalski at the 37:00 mark off an Indians corner
kick. The determined Sir Bills kept up their attack and countered with a
goal of their own with just :06 left in the half. The second half was
relatively even, with both teams fighting hard for opportunities and chances
on net. The Indians put the game away with 10:00 left in regulation on a
blast from the boot of Zack Weidner. |

Glens Falls opened the scoring 25:00 into the first half on an unassisted
goal by Murphy Potter who dribbled through the Gloversville back line
to hit the net. A determined Gloversville squad replied five minutes later
on a breakthrough goal by Aaron Pettit to close out the scoring in the first
half. Glens Falls came roaring into the second half with a goal by John
Rossell who beat several players at the end line to drive a blast that
rebounded off a Gloversville defender and into the net. Three minutes later,
Jon Kowalski finished off a Murphy Potter header in the box to
put the Indians up 3-1. But the Dragons weren’t done yet. Just minutes after
the Kowalski goal, Nick Tesi beat both the last Glens Falls defender and the
Indians keeper to tuck the ball into the side-netting, bringing the score to
3-2. The determined Indians rebounded quickly with a goal from AJ Ramirez,
which was assisted by John Rossell. The Indians put the game away
with a final blast by Rossell, his second of the game. Gloversville keeper
Dylan MacPhail played an outstanding game in net, shutting down several
Indians point blank shots. |

Glens Falls came out the eventual winner in a Foothills showdown that pitted
two cross-town rivals in a race for the top of the standings in Council
play. Much of the first half was a midfield struggle between the two squads.
Glens Falls registered the first goal when Murphy Potter weaved his
way through the Queensbury back line to poke a shot past the Queensbury
keeper. Potter rounded out the half with a penalty kick awarded for a
Queensbury challenge on a Glens Falls attacker at the end line. Following
the half, Queensbury charged back at the Indians with two goals in just two
minutes. The first Queensbury goal came from an Evan Lipinski direct free
kick just inside the touchline. Lipinski’s high lofting cross cleared the
Indians defense and hit the upper 90 at the back post, beyond the grasp of
Glens Falls keeper Tyler Turner. Shortly after, with a clear shift in
momentum, the Queensbury forwards played a timed run past the Glens Falls
left back to mark Custer whose pass was netted by Mike DeWitt to tie the
game. For the next several minutes both teams picked up the pace and moved
the ball from end to end, but it was Glens Falls’ John Rossell who
managed to beat a defender at midfield to move in front of the Queensbury
net and blasted a shot past Chase for the eventual game winner. Glens Falls
received great performances from PJ Londrigan and Tom Burgess
on the back line. The midfield was controlled by the combination play of
Potter, Rossell, and Jon Kowalski. AJ Ramirez
created plenty of opportunities up front. Queensbury was anchored by Kevin
Carr and Peter Quaresima in the back. Lipinski, DeWitt Kevin Sawyer anchored
much of the attack. |

AJ Ramirez led the Indians with a hat trick over rival South Glens
Falls in a crucial Foothills match-up. Ramirez opened the scoring
15:00 into the game on a breakaway that threaded through the South High back
line to beat the South High keeper. The first half ended relatively even
with each team created chances on net. The Indians opened the scoring just
4:00 into the second half with another crisp finish from AJ Ramirez
off a John Rossell pass. Rossell put the Indians up by three
when he netted a beautiful cross by Murphy Potter. Ramirez
completed the hat trick at 18:00 when he again connected with John
Rossell. Murphy Potter rounded out the scoring on another
unassisted breakaway shot. Glens Falls received a well-rounded team effort
from all players. South High had great efforts from Ali Choukier, Justin
Dalaba, and Jack Bouchard. South High keeper Evan Smith made several key
saves in goal. |

As should have been expected, this game turned out to be a Foothills
Classic. With both teams contending for the league championship, this game
lived up to expectations. Broadalbin-Perth came out hard from the beginning
and owned the only two goals of the first half. The first, a beautiful
header by David Gage from a perfectly placed Cameron DeRocker cross. The
second, an unassisted blast from outside the box by Rob Faulds that was too
hard and fast for the Glens Falls keeper to handle. Glens Falls rounded out
the first half scoring when Jon Kowalski headed a free kick delivered
by Shane Reynolds to put the Indians on the board. Broadalbin-Perth
keeper, Aaron Eshler, did a good job at getting a hand on it, but the ball
managed to cross the line. The Patriots entered the second half with a one
goal lead. During the second half, Glens Falls came out hard. The Indians
tied the game when AJ Ramirez received a beautiful through ball from
Murphy Potter and beat the Patriots keeper on the first touch.
Zack Weidner’s pass from the right flank set-up Potter’s feed. The
Indians put the game away when Jon Kowalski received a drop pass from
James Brown, dribbled through a defender and blasted a low hard shot
from 20 yards out that went through the keeper’s hands. Broadalbin-Perth had
one last chance to tie the game when the Indians keeper, Tyler Turner,
mishandled a 1 v. 1 ball at the top of the box. The rebound landed at the
feet of Joe Baia who blasted a shot on goal. However, it was Glens Falls
back Shane Reynolds who made the save with a shot off his chin to
secure the win. The speed and technical skills of Rob Faulds, Cameron
DeRocker and Joe Baia created headaches for the Indians defense all night.
The Indians received outstanding efforts from PJ Londrigan and
Tommy Burgess on defense while John Rossell created many
opportunities up front. |

shot within the 6 yard box 14 minutes into the first half. Hlat then scored
his second goal 5 minutes later with an assist by Andrew Benaquista.
Although both teams played well, the majority of play was in the midfield.
In the second half, Craig Holub converted on a penalty kick for Scotia's
third goal. Glens Falls played hard and managed some opportunities in the
second half, but could not finish on goal. Shots on goal for Scotia 12 and
for Glens Falls 8. Both teams had 3 corner kicks. |

Glens Falls jumped out to a quick start with a goal from Zach Weidner
just minutes into the game and quickly built up a sizeable lead in the first
half. John Rossell set up Weidner’s goal on a cross from the side of
the net. Minutes later the Indians had an additional goal from Jon
Kowalski also assisted from Rossell. AJ Ramirez converted on two
successive goals the first on a through ball from Murphy Potter and
the second again assisted by Rossell, his third of the game. Johnstown got
on the boards with an unassisted strike by Travis Bevington who beat the
last defender on a foot race to the net and finessed a shot past the Glens
Falls keeper. Early in the second half, Glens Falls again came out on the
attack. Murphy Potter started off the second half scoring with a
blast assisted by Jake McCoola from six yards out. John Rossell
added to the tally when he received a feed from Potter and buried in the
back of the net. Jon Kowalski netted is second of the game minutes
later on another Murphy Potter assist, his third of the game.
Johnstown finished off the scoring when Mario Balzano scooped up a misplayed
clearance by the Glens Falls back line that landed at the top of the box.
Balzano’s looping high shot was just enough to beat the grasp of Indians
keeper Leo Boucher. Glens Falls continued to receive solid
performances from several players including Jake McCoola at midfield
and Shane Reynolds and PJ Londrigan on defense. Johnstown’s
Matt Wendt and John Roth kept the Sir Bills attack charging throughout the
contest. |

Queensbury |

The first half of this game was a back-and-forth battle between the two
local rivals as each team created opportunities, but neither could find the
net. Coming out of the halftime, Queensbury had the better play and it paid
off when Mike DeWitt jumped on a fumble by the Glens Falls keeper in front
of the net and promptly placed the ball in the net. The play and pace of the
game continued to be fast-paced until Murphy Potter was taken down in
the box by a Queensbury defender. The resulting penalty kick was buried by
Potter to tie up the game. Shortly after the penalty, Glens Falls gained the
upper hand when AJ Ramirez set up a rushing Murphy Potter who
netted his second goal of the match. Just minutes later the Indians put the
game beyond reach as Murphy Potter returned the favor by feeding a
cross to AJ Ramirez. Ramirez sprinted toward the ball as Queensbury
keeper Colin Chase came out to defend 1 v 1. Ramirez’s header got away just
in time before the two collided and the ball settled into the back of the
net. With just minutes left in the game the Queensbury players made every
effort to get back a goal, but the Indians defense held up to the pressure.
Queensbury had excellent defensive efforts from Pete Quaresima and Justin
Dambrosio. Brad Kervin and Evan Lipinski led the attack. For the Indians,
PJ Londrigan anchored the defense while Jon Kowalski, John Rossell
and Jake McCoola helped push the offensive attack. |

Sopczyk. Glens Falls senior workhorse Patrick Titterington had
the only goal in the second half, and the first in his career, with one
minute left in regulation. Hudson Falls received gritty play from several
players including Nick Miller, Steve Waite, Craig Raggi and Joe Raggi.

Glens Falls was the first team to grab a goal in this scrappy and
well-played game between the two cross-town rivals. John Rossell
scored the first goal when he received a pass from Jon Kowalski to
the right of the keeper and buried a knuckle ball near side to beat the
South High keeper. Jon Kowalski rounded out the first half scoring
with a nice finish from a Murphy Potter pass. Kowalski and Potter
hooked up again to open the second half and put the Indians up 3-0. AJ
Ramirez found the net a few minutes later on a beautiful pass from
John Rossell near the penalty spot and nailed it off the outside of his
foot. South High got on the board with ten minutes left in the game when Ali
Choukier pounced on a mishandled ball by the Glens Falls keeper. Leo
Boucher had made the initial stop but it slipped through his hands and
Choukier had little trouble finishing the shot. |

Murphy Potter got the hat trick that capped off another fine season

just caught the left side upper ninety to beat the Indians keeper. Glens
Falls came roaring back to finish off the half with two goals. The first a
turn around left footed shot from Zach Weidner on a pass from
Murphy Potter and the second again by Potter from Jon Kowlaski.
AJ Ramirez opened up the scoring in the second stanza on another
Kowalski pass over the heads of the Gloversville back line to an onrushing

Glens Falls advances to the Section II Class A semifinals for the second
straight year with a decisive win over a spirited Gloversville side today at
Morse Athletic Complex. The first goal of the game came on a goal line pass
from Zach Weidner who hit AJ Ramirez at the top of the box to
bury it in the back or the net. A tough Gloversville squad controlled the
midfield and kept it that way for the remainder of the first half. In the
second half, the Indians made some necessary adjustments and gained control
of play. Fourteen minutes into the second half, Murphy Potter
gathered up a loose ball around thirty yards out, beat two Gloversville
defenders, and blasted a shot past the Gloversville keeper to make it 2-0
Indians. Six minutes later, Jon Kowalski put the game away when he
received a ball from Potter in the box, took a touch and finished an
unpressured shot in the corner of the net. Glens Falls had a well-rounded
effort from many different players including PJ Londrigan and
Shane Reynolds on defense and Zach Weidner and Jake McCoola
at midfield. Aaron Petit and Brandon Calandra anchored the Dragons
attack. Ben Gillis and David Esposito closed down much of the midfield play
on defense for Gloversville. |

Glens Falls came out the winner in a physical and evenly matched battle to
advance to the Section II Class A final. Glens Falls got out to an early
lead when Shane Reynolds played a long ball out of the left back
position to Murphy Potter who received the ball on the run and
blasted a shot past the Academy keeper. AJ Ramirez made it a two-goal
lead when he received another long pass from Tommy Burgess, beat the
Academy defender in a foot race and tapped a slow rolling ball into the net.
Halftime ended with the Indians leading 2-0.
The second half became a counter attack struggle with each team trying
desperately to get a goal. Albany Academy got back one goal when Randy
Taylor finished on a Denzel Ogunyase cross. Academy controlled the pace of
the game for the next few minutes and the pressure paid off when Ogunyase
dropped a pass out of the corner to Ben Dropkin at the sideline. Dropkin
took a long high shot from outside and beat the Indians keeper to the top
left corner of the net to tie the game. The remainder of regulation
continued to be an end-to-end battle and came to an end with a 2-2 tie. The
pace of the game continued into overtime as each team struggled with the
effects of the long physical battle. Six minutes into the first overtime
session, Murphy Potter broke out of the midfield with the ball and
made a through pass to AJ Ramirez. Ramirez beat the Academy defender,
touched the ball and netted the game winner.
Glens Falls had a strong defensive effort from PJ Londrigan, Shane
Reynolds, Tommy Burgess and Nick Weidner. Jake McCoola and
Jon Rossell played hard in the attack. Academy had solid play from
Taylor Esper and Chris Paratore in creating offensive opportunities. Chris
Lewis and Chris Lockwood slowed down the Indians attack.

Falls keeper, John Crawford, came up with a big a save in the first half on
a PK taken by Brian Custer. The deciding goal came in the second half when
Glens Falls’ Bobby Kane connected on a high ball, served in by Tom Burgess
that found it’s way over the Queensbury keeper’s head. This was the first
victory for a Glens Falls soccer team against Queensbury since 1995. |

Glens Falls hosted a strong
Gloversville side and managed to hold the dragons scoreless throughout
regulation. Gloversville had the advantage throughout regulation and was
held scoreless by the outstanding play of Glens Falls keeper John Crawford
who managed to stop several point blank shots. In overtime, Gloversville
kept the pressure on the Indians and Matt Lee managed to finish a Jordan
Antonucci pass with about 5:00 remaining in the first overtime. Glens Falls
had strong play by midfield player Jon Kowalski and forward Ryan Conklin.
Gloversville’s Chris Ioele was dangerous on the wings and Dylan MacPhail
made several key saves. |

A very flat Glens Falls side
ran up against an inspired Johnstown team that gave the Indians a difficult
time in a 2-0 game that was closer than it would appear. Johnstown keeper
Greg Horning was a constant thorn in the Glens Falls attackers side,
limiting their scoring opportunities early in the first half. It wasn’t
until the 25 minute mark of the second half that Bobby Kane managed to find
the back of the net off a Stephen Mann assist. Five minutes later, Kane put
the game away on an unassisted goal in the box. Jon Kowalski continued to
play tough for the Indians. Jon Leibowitz and Matt Wendt had strong games
for the Sir Bills. |

Yet another evenly played
game to show how tight the Foothills Council is this year. Glens Falls
hosted a tough South High side in a match that was well balanced and
squarely played. Glens Falls notched the first goal of the game on a free
kick from the corner just outside the penalty box. Shane Reynolds’ service
was finished with precision off the head of an on-rushing AJ Ramirez to beat
keeper Evan Smith at the far post. After the break, South High came out hard
and pushed the Glens Falls defense continuously. However, it was a high
lofting kick, by midfielder Tim Hatch, over the head of the South High
keeper and into the net, that finished off the game and took some of the
steam out of the South High attack. Glens Falls possessed the ball much of
the remainder of the game to close out the cross-town rivalry for the
regular season. John Crawford notched his third shutout of the season for
Glens Falls. The Indians were helped by the solid play of Murphy Potter,
John Kowalski, and AJ Ramirez. Ali Choukier, Logan Carpenter, and John
Cooney had strong games for the Bulldogs respectively. |

In a cold and wet game,
Glens Falls keeper John Crawford tallied his sixth shutout against a feisty
Hudson Falls squad looking for their second league win on the season. Glens
Falls controlled most of the play throughout this one, scoring their first
three goals during the first half with two goals from Bobby Kane and one
from Zach Weidner. Following the half, Hudson Falls came out strong and
limited the Indians to just one goal- a Jared Conklin throw-in that was
converted on a long blasting shot into the upper right corner by Zach
Weidner. Glens Falls had an outstanding defensive effort by Shane Reynolds.
Hudson Falls was led by Evan McCullen and Troy Belden. |

A slow and unexciting first
half of soccer ended in a 0-0 tie for the Sir Bills and Indians, neither of
which generated much attack, with Glens Falls leading on shots at the half
by 9-4. However, the Indians came out hard in the second half when Murphy
Potter opened up the scoring with a carrying drive through the defensive
back line and buried an unassisted shot past the Johnstown keeper. The drive
sparked the Glens Falls attacking game and Potter’s goal was soon followed
with a goal by AJ Ramirez off a Tim Hatch feed from the left side of the
box. Freshman Zach Weidner rounded out the scoring late in the game with a
feed from Ben Sopczyk in the box. Johnstown keeper Greg Horning worked hard
at keeping the game even in the first half and continued to play a tough
game throughout the second half. |

A technically sound and
confident Scotia squad asserted its dominance during a key Foothills
match-up with league championship implications. The first half scoring saw
Scotia finish nearly identical goals from Austin Kephart (assist by Gerard
Lewis)and Ryan Alescio (assist by Ryan Glass), both goals off goal line
passes to the top of the box. The second half belonged to Scotia who limited
Glens Falls to just one shot on goal. The Tartans dominated the midfield
play, while the back line of Philip Singer, Brian Risely, and Nick Alescio
played outstanding games in limiting the Glens Falls attack. Glens Falls
keeper, John Crawford, had another strong game, keeping the score close for
the Indians. |

Glens Falls ended its league season with an
exciting double overtime victory against cross-town rival Queensbury. Glens
Falls gained the upper edge early in the first half of play with a Bobby
Kane goal on a misplayed ball in front of the Spartans net. The goal pumped
up the Glens Falls squad who controlled the ball and maintained momentum
throughout the rest of the half. In the second half, Queensbury regained
their footing and motivation when Brian Custer tapped in a ball that was
misplayed by the Glens Falls keeper outside the box. The remainder of
regulation was an evenly played battle as each team managed to find several
opportunities but neither tem could find the net. The overtime play
continued to be hard fought and intense. However, it all came to an end when
Bobby Kane’s square pass to Tommy Burgess was deposited just under the
crossbar for the game winner with just minutes left in the second overtime.
Glens Falls received strong midfield play from Jon Kowalski and Murphy
Potter. While the back line of Nick Weidner, PJ Londrigan and Shane Reynolds
held the Spartan attack. Queensbury’s Jack Daley, Andrew Romanazzi and Pat
Hughes all had excellent games for the Spartans. |

It was all Hudson Falls during the first five minutes as the Tigers
maintained an early drive that produced four shots on goal and four corner
kicks. However, the slow start for the Indians picked up pace after Jon
Hayes planted the first goal of the game in the back of the net off a keeper
fumble when AJ Ramirez blasted one low and hard. From then on Glens Falls
maintained the pace and direction of the game. Hayes’ goal was followed by
an AJ Ramirez finish on a beautifully played through ball from John Rossell.
Murphy Potter rounded out the half with an unassisted blast after beating
the last defender at the left post. Bobby Kane finished off the scoring with
two in the second half. His first off an assist from Jared Conklin. Kane’s
second on a feed from Zach Weidner. |

Glens
Falls sealed a bid to the semifinal round with a shutout win against a very
tough Gloversville team. The atmosphere under the lights and the falling
temperatures in
Gloversville did little to slow down the
Glens Falls attack. The
Indians first goal came during a scrum in front of the net after the Dragons
failed to clear a corner kick. Several players got a piece of the ball, but
it was Glens Falls’ Tim Hatch who eventually scurried the ball over the goal
line. During the second half, Gloversville moved to a three man forward
attack, but was shut down by the aggressive play of the Glens Falls backs
and keeper John Crawford. Glens Falls sealed the victory late in the game on
a Bobby Kane penalty kick. The PK was awarded when Glens Falls’ AJ Ramirez
was taken down from behind in the box on a breakaway. Glens Falls had
outstanding performances from Jon Kowalski, Murphy Potter, Shane Reynolds
and PJ Londrigan. Jordan Antonucci, Mike Evens, Matt Lee and Elijah Clay
pressured the Glens Falls defense and generated several opportunities on net
throughout the game.

Glens Falls advances to the
Section II Class A final for the first time since 1976 with a semifinal win
against Ravena at Queensbury High School. Glens Falls tallied the first goal
at the 26-minute mark of the first half. Jon Kowalski hit a breaking AJ
Ramirez in the box and Ramirez shot a low hard ball to beat the keeper. Five
minutes later, Glens Falls took advantage of a missed clear outside the box
and Jared Conklin blasted an unassisted shot in the back right corner of the
net. The second half produced few actual threats by either team. The pace
and tempo of the second half was controlled by Glens Falls and the game
finished without another goal. Ravena received excellent play from Bobby
Hummel and Max Smith, both of whom produced defensive and attacking threats
throughout the game. Glens Falls keeper John Crawford recorded his tenth
shutout of the season and third straight shutout in sectional play. This was
Glens Falls first trip to a sectional semifinal since 1988. |

Burnt Hills dominated much
of the midfield play which accounted for the difference in a hard fought
match for the Class A title. Glens Falls never really had an opportunity to
control the ball or generate any attack as Burnt Hills gathered steam
steadily throughout the game. A relatively uneventful first half broke wide
open for the Spartans as they out shot Glens Falls 16-4 in the second
stanza. Shawn Fitzpatrick buried the game winner for Burnt Hills just
minutes into the half. Kirk Denero finished off the scoring as Burnt Hills
wrapped up it’s title run. Glens Falls keeper, John Crawford, kept the score
closer than it could have been coming up with eighteen big saves. Glens
Falls ended it’s year with it’s most successful post-season in 29 years and
it’s best win-loss record since 1992. |

The Indians continued to
improve in the Foothills with a win over Hudson Falls at the Morse Athletic

assist from Bobby Kane that was initiated by a great move in the corner by
AJ Ramirez. Four minutes later Kane added a goal to put the Indians up 2-0
at the half. Glens Falls maintained their composure in the second half and
added a second unassisted goal by Bobby Kane. Finally, defenseman Bill
Montgomery netted his first goal off a Mike Buccino corner kick to round out

sloppy first half of soccer ended with a goal by South High’s John Cooney
with just a few minutes left. Glens Falls came roaring back in the second
half with a corner kick header by Ryan Wolfe, his second goal in two games,
to start the Indian’s recovery. Zach Hooker notched the next three goals
including a PK. |

Broadalbin-Perth |
3 |
Broadalbin-Perth has made it sort of a habit this year to get out of the
starting blocks and jump start the game. They did so again tonight when just
six minutes into the match, Tim Sikora's pass to Cameron DeRocker let
DeRocker send a diagonal ball into a charging Tom Wickham, and his
anticipation paid off as he broke B-P on top. Later in the half, Bobby
Kane's pass set up Murphy Potter's goal to tie the score. Sixty seconds
later, DeRocker's corner kick found the dangerous Wickham alone on the 18,
and Wickham one timed it to the net for his ninth goal of the campaign. Just
before the half ended, Kevan Kozlowski's shot was blocked, and DeRocker
cleaned up the rebound and placed the ball into the net to put B-P up, 3-1.
Brian Mann rallied the Indians in the second half with his score to draw the
home squad within one, but that was as close as they could get. |

Queensbury scored a goal in each half of their shutout win. Justin
Schultze played a solid game in goal, earning the blanking as the Spartans
outshot the Indians, 17-12, and had 5 corners to 1. Jack Daley and
Brian Custer scored and Matt Wasserman and Alex Frigon assisted. |

the same for GF. Shots were Scotia 20, GF 8. |

A
scoreless tie at halftime was broken by a well placed header by Matt Lee on
a cross from Robert Briceno to beat Glens Falls keeper John Crawford. Glens
Falls roared back with several attempts to equal the score during the final
ten minutes of the game, only to be turned away by the Gloversville defense
anchored by Josh Brower. Gloversville keeper Harley Fuller was solid in
stopping several well-placed shots by the Glens Falls attack. |

Glens Falls opened the scoring off Brian Mann’s goal midway through the
first half. Hudson Falls came back quickly on a defensive error by the Glens
Falls backs when the ball ratcheted off Glens Falls’ keeper John Crawford,
struck a defenseman, and ended up in the net. Halfway through the second
stanza, Hudson Falls counterattacked and Cody Bacon took advantage of
another Glens Falls missed tackle to put the Tigers ahead 2-1. Glens Falls
dominated the game throughout but Hudson Falls was never really out of the
game until the last minute of play when Glens Falls’ junior midfielder Tim
Hatch finished on a cross from senior Zach Hooker to notch the game winner.
Bobby Kane put the game away by scoring his second goal of the match with
one minute left in the match. |

South Glens Falls |

Glens Falls controlled much of the game throughout, while South High proved
to be a very stubborn opponent in holding the Indians to just two goals. Tim
Hatch opened the scoring by finishing on a Jared Conklin corner kick at
point blank range. In the second half of play, each team had opportunities,
but it was Glens Falls’ Brian Mann who secured the win with his 7th goal of
the season. John Crawford played an excellent game in net with his third
shutout of the season. South High’s Chris Mack played an excellent game in
goal for the Bulldogs, returning to the game after an injury midway through
the second half. |

Johnstown |

Johnstown came out hard against the Indians in their first meeting of the
year. The Sir Bills controlled the ball and had several opportunities-
finally connecting on a communication breakdown between the Glens Falls back
line and their keeper. Chris Bryan pounced on the missed clear and buried it
in the net. Johnstown maintained a halftime advantage with a score of 1-0.
The Indians came roaring back in the second half and managed to notch an
unassisted goal from Brian Mann. Zach Hooker notched the go ahead goal when
his corner went directly into the top back corner of the Johnstown net
without a player touching it. Mike Buccino finished the scoring for Glens
Falls on a well-placed cross from Brian Wyle at the six. |

Glens Falls completed its regular season on a high note with a 3-0
well-played win over Johnstown. Glens Falls controlled most of the game
limiting Johnstown to just three shots on net. Glens Falls spread the
scoring around with goals from Tim Hatch (4th), Mike Buccino (3rd) and AJ
Ramirez (6th). John Crawford recorded his fourth shutout on the season.
Glens Falls finished the regular season with an outstanding accomplishment-
doubling their overall wins from last season and recording the team’s best
Foothills and overall records since 1992 when they advanced to the section
finals (also the last season a GF team had a winning record). |

Mohonasen |

Glens falls completed their season with a disappointing sectional loss to
12th ranked Mohonasen. Mohonasen controlled every aspect of the game which
showed Mohonasen’s shots on goal advantage of 16-2. Glens Falls defense held
Mohon’s star midfielder Roberto Squeglia at bay for most of the game but was
unable to control play beyond midfield. Mohon’s Joe Caschera opened up the
scoring off an assist from Squeglia. Glens Falls’ lone goal came a few
minutes later off a Jared Conklin throw-in that was mishandled by the Mohon
keeper and ended up in the net. Mohon’s Caschera netted the eventual game
winner in the final minute of the first half. Brian Dalton pounced on a
confused Glens Falls back line to round out the scoring. |
