Mohonasen
secured a return visit to the Class A finals following a commanding second
half performance that knocked off the #9 seed Glens Falls. The game opened
up with play being held quite even throughout the middle of the field. Glens
Falls had the earliest chances and kept the pressure on the Mohon midfield
players and backs. But as the game progressed the Mohon players slowly built
momentum and were able to get on the board with 9:00 left in the first half.
Attilio Tabano knocked home a loose ball in the six-yard box that the Glens
Falls defenders were unable to clear. Mohon carried the one goal lead into
halftime. The second half was all Mohon. Mike Korzun tallied at the 10:00
mark when he beat a defender in a 1 v 1 situation and finished cleanly. Four
minutes later, the Glens Falls keeper was called for a foul in the box and
Mohon was awarded a PK. The GF keeper came up with the big save, but Mohon
was awarded a corner kick following the deflection. Cam McDermott put Mohon
up by three when he headed in the corner at the far post. The final tally of
the match came from Mike Korzun, his second on the day, when he received a
thru pass and beat the GF keeper 1 v 1. Mohonasen will now advance to play
Queensbury on Saturday in the Section II Class A Finals at Colonie. |

In yet
another sloppy and mud-filled match, the Glens Falls Indians took advantage
of an early opportunity to fire home the lone goal of the match and knock
off the #1 seeded Cadets of Albany Academy. The flow of the game was
fast-paced throughout, despite muddy conditions and pockets of standing
water. The Indians scored on their first shot on goal when Carl Sopczyk
gathered up a shot that was blocked by the cadets keeper and blasted it into
the back of the net from 20 yards out. Both teams had several opportunities
throughout the remainder of the match and it was the keepers- Hugh Fisher
for Albany Academy and Ryan Montgomery for Glens Falls- who made the
difference. Academy had the bulk of the possession in the second half as the
Indians dropped back to defend their one goal lead. In the end, the Indians
defense held up under some strong pressure to secure the win. Glens Falls
now moves on to face Mohonasen in the Class A semi-finals on Wednesday at
Queensbury High School. |

The Glens Falls
Indians and the Lansingburgh Knights were able to kick off following a
postponement due to inclement weather on Thursday. The field conditions were
less than ideal, with wide patches of mud covering most of the field, which
made for a difficult match. In the end, it was the #9 seed and visiting
Indians who pulled out the commanding win. Glens Falls controlled the bulk
of the possession and opportunities throughout the first half with each side
trying to find their footing in the sloppy conditions. However, the Knights
were able to hold the Indians to a scoreless first half thanks in part to
the exceptional play of Lansingburgh keeper Jared Jarosz who made some
wonderful saves. The Indians came out hard in the second half and created
several early chances. Their determination finally paid off sixteen minutes
in when Carl Sopczyk sent a ball to the flag and Matt Parsons beat a
defender, went near post and belted the ball past Jarosz and into the
far-side netting. The Knights came back hard and created some of their best
opportunities in the ten minutes following the Glens Falls goal that tested
the Indians back four. The Indians put the game away when Matt Parsons
converted on a free kick from the top of the box with eight minutes left in
the match. The Indians now move on to meet Albany Academy in the Class A
quarterfinals on Monday, October 31st, at Albany Academy. |

cross-town grudge match the Glens Falls Indians pulled out the upset win
against South Glens Falls for their first regular season defeat since

peppering the Glens Falls keeper, Ryan Montgomery, with several shots that
were on target. The Indians struggled on attack while slowly building up
strength in their defensive third of the pitch. With just 10 seconds

In a game with
sectional seeding implications, Glens Falls came out on top with a slim 1-0
win. The match opened up with a blistering pace that saw both the Indians
and the Sir Bills miss on two point blank opportunities in the first 15
minutes. The first half saw Johnstown with the edge in possession while both
teams had plenty of good chances to put the ball in the net. The second
half seemed to bring some life to Glens Falls which led to their game
winning goal in the 72nd minute. Ryan Hogan’s desperate shot
slipped under the Johnstown keeper Steven Brown after the Sir Bill defense
was unable to clear the ball. The final eight minutes saw Johnstown
stringing together several passes as they pushed forward for the equalizer.

Scotia-Glenville came to Glens Falls today for Senior Day and promptly
quashed any dreams of avenging the overtime loss from the last time these
two teams met. The Tartans controlled much of the pace throughout of the
game, limiting the Indians to just three shots on goal. The first Scotia
goal came on an own goal when a Glens Falls player inadvertently netted the
ball following a pass by the Tartan’s County Moran. Five minutes later, the
Tartans took possession of a weak Glens Falls clearance and quickly put the
ball back in on the Indians keeper. The Tartan’s third goal came off a
corner kick at the 15-minute mark of the second half. Glens Falls failed to
react toward the ball as it came into the six-yard box and Kullen Bailey
easily smacked it into the back of the net off his head. Vitas Carosella
rounded out the scoring for the Tartans the 67-minute mark. |
